Dr. Jacinta Flattery-O'Brien
Jacinta Flattery-O'Brien is a patent attorney and a Partner with Shelston IP, a specialist intellectual property firm. She obtains, maintains and defends the IP rights of her clients in the areas of biotechnology, pharmaceuticals and health care. She represents the interests of several international companies such as Johnson & Johnson, Amgen, Novo Nordisk and Novozymes in Australia and also works with a number of local, smaller biotechnology companies. Jacinta graduated from the University of New South Wales (UNSW, Sydney) in 1992 with the University Medal, obtained a PhD in molecular biology (UNSW) and undertook postdoctoral research work at the Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute (Sydney). She joined the patent profession in 1998. She has lectured in the strategic management of IP since 2000 and was appointed Adjunct Associate Professor at MII in 2007.
