INOV805 Biotechnology Entrepreneurship
This unit is not presently being offered by Macquarie University.
----------
Description
The unit is to assist those within the biotechnology sector for whom a licensing deal or start-up company is a possible path forward in developing and exploiting a biotechnology-based product or service. It is also relevant to those who must justify a commercialisation activity within an existing biotechnology company or research organisation. The course provides the basis on which a decision can be made whether to invest time and resources into the development of a fundable business case, and then a full commitment to either a new venture or licensing/sale strategy.
This unit is linked intimately to the progressive elements involved in developing a detailed business plan for a biotechnology-based commercial outcome. It uses case studies, textbook, publications, visiting entrepreneurs and video material. The course encourages development of a team, a focus on the customer, and an effective approach to managing the technical, market and business risk/reward issues. A range of detailed case studies provide a real chance to assess the issues involved and attendees are encouraged to provide their own potential business concept.
